Recently I was told about a future workshop on allyship. Is workplace bullying related to allyship?
According to Google: Allyship is a lifelong process of building relationships based on trust, consistency and accountability with marginalized individuals and/or groups of people. Our work and efforts hope to be recognized by people we seek to ally ourselves with. Being an ally means being able to act with and for others in pursuit of ending oppression and creating equality.
Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior amongst a person or group of people that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated or has the potential to be repeated. It includes actions such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking someone physically or verbally and excluding someone from a group on purpose (stopbullying.gov)
What we want to do is to get rid of bullying and create allyships. Be open to listening to others. Stay away from biases and blaming of victims. Create unity. An attitude of allyship will decrease workplace bullying on the job.
