What I'd like to do in this blog is to explore the nature of bullying and discuss according to Olweus the three different types of bullies:
Aggressive bullies - is the most common type of bully. Such people tend to be physically strong, impulsive, hot-tempered, belligerent and fearless. Their personality is characterized by aggression, motivated by a quest for power and a desire to dominate others. Often they see negative characteristics in p around them, especially when such traits don't even exist.
Passive bullies - unlike the overly confident aggressive bullies. These people tend to be more insecure than the aggressive bully. The passive bully tends to have a characteristic of low self-esteem, some may have difficulty focusing their attention on projects and are prone to violent outbursts or temper tantrums. Often such passive bullies show loyalty to aggressive bullies.
Bully-victims- are bullies who have been targets of bullying themselves. The bully-victim tends to have a weaker personality than the other two types of bullies but are stronger than the targets of bullying. The bully-victim is easily aroused and provokes others especially who are weaker than the bully-victim. Wolke mentioned that there are pure bullies who do not fall into any of these categories. They essentially do not fall into any of the above categories and just use bullying to dominate others. In another blog we'll discuss characteristics of victims but we hope that bullies will learn to work with their colleagues in more constructive ways so as to reduce workplace bullying on their jobs.
